MBC has a team of Elders, something like a non executive board of directors - each of whom is responsible for the three “Ps” of MBC: People, Policy & Prayer. Elders (who are not elderly at all) serve for at least 3 years. As part of their responsibilities each elder usually chairs one of the MBC Action Teams.

Dr Andy Gaston

I am aged 42 and married to the amazingly patient Fliss, with two wonderful, lively children, Katy and Daniel.  The past year has been an amazing journey of faith for us - finding out how faithful God is while how faithless we can be at times.   We are delighted to be back in Plymouth and keen to serve at Mutley in whatever ways we can. We would like to say a big thank you to everybody who has been part of the wonderful warm welcome we received.  At present I am involved with the Mission Action Group and felt very privileged to be able to work with the Go!2009 teams.  I enjoy sailing with friends in a local sailing club and am currently working in a GP surgery in Ernesettle, hoping to complete a refresher programme at the end of January and then look for a permanent job in Plymouth.

Mr Brian George

I grew up in Plymouth and attended a local church with faithful youth leaders.  I trusted Jesus in my early teens and was baptised a few years later.  I’m married to Sylvia and for 20 years, with Sylv’s help, I was ‘Secretary’ for a Christian Youth Camp, was also responsible for organising and leading the week for 15 to 18 year olds and helped lead the children’s work at our first church.  We became members at Mutley about eight years ago, helped for several years with 3DC.  I was also co-opted on to YCAG and in recent years have been helping with Whizz kids.  Sylvia and I are part of an ‘Area Pastoral Care’ team.  I help with the stewarding and am a ‘Street Pastor’.  I am passionate about Jesus and helping children, young people, students, everyone get a clear picture of who He is, encouraging them in their spiritual journeys.  One of my prayers is that people in Plymouth will turn to Jesus.  If the church calls me to serve as an elder, I will God willing continue to seek The Lord’s leading and to serve and encourage the church family and our community as He enables.

Prof. John Spicer

John is married to the amazing Fiona, his strength and soul mate. They have three children, Ben, Ethan and Ellie. John has been a marine biologist since he was four; a Christian since  he was seventeen. John has led worship, been a Youth leader and Bible teacher. He and Fiona have kept an open house for most of their married life. They went to Bible College in Glasgow, John under cover of darkness, Fiona during the day. Within 'God's new society', John’s passion is for 'every Christian to be a lover, reader and studier of God's Word and every life a Christlike life of worship and servant hood, never forgetting, ever celebrating, always amazed at, ceaselessly proclaiming that we, the unlovely, are loved with an unconditional love, because of Jesus.’ John also plays a mean game of table tennis and will gladly take on all-comers.

Dr Paul McArdle

I am 47 years old and am married to Mary.  I have two sons Ben and Joe aged 18 and 12.  I work at Derriford and have been coming to Mutley for 7 years or so.  God is kind and has given me a great family, Mary who is lovely, works hard to keep the family on track despite my best efforts!  Ben and Joe are great fun to have around.  I help out with the music at church and was involved with the India trip last year.  I love Mutley Baptist Church, it has real potential.  I would love to see everyone being stuck into what Gods Church can really offer especially loving its neighbours. Sounds a bit trite but it's what we are meant to do. So I guess I would love to see Church with an outward focus with folks worshipping God with our life style as well as at church.
