People at Mutley Baptist Church - The Staff Team

Rev. Andy Caldwell - Senior Pastor

Andy is married to Jo, they have three boys, Callum, Mackenzie & Benjamin.

Andy heads up the spiritual leadership and direction of Mutley Baptist Church which involves the preaching, teaching and pastoral care of the Church…In other words, the buck stops here!

Steve Campion - Youth Pastor

Steve is married to Rebecca and they live in Hartley, Plymouth.

He grew up in north London, but thinks Plymouth is better. Steve’s three main hobbies are football (spurs), cycling and cheese.

Steve’s responsibilities are as Youth Pastor (looking after the under 18s) Youth Evangelist (telling them about Jesus) and Youth team leader (helping the rest of his team to do the same). Steve is also part of the church leadership team.

Emily Davies - Youth Outreach Worker

Emily is married to Andy and with three children and has lived in Plymouth for five years. Prior to that Emily spent 21 years growing up and living in Hertfordshire. She tends to keep quiet about the fact that she was born over the border in Essex!  Emily supports and works alongside Steve in caring for and bringing out the best in the young people in their care. She also works at making contact and building relationships with teenagers in the wider Mutley community. Emily gave birth to 3 babies within 15 months! (There’s a brain teaser for a quiet afternoon!)

Gill Steele - Office Manager

Gill lives in Mannamead, Plymouth with husband Robert and has a son Graham and a daughter Heather. Gill is Andy’s P A and also has responsibility for all the normal ‘officey’ things that are linked with a busy church office…and she is (nearly) always smiling about it all. Gill moved to Plymouth in 2003, from Newport in South Wales, prior to that she lived in Hamilton, Scotland, where she moved after marrying Robert. She was born and brought up, as a farmer’s daughter, in Broadclyst, just outside Exeter.

Ben Hatfield - Youth Outreach Worker

Ben joined the MBC staff team with in September 2006. He had previously spent four months on placement with the youth team as part of his degree course and accepted Steve's invitation to to be part of MBC full time on graduating. Ben was born in Stevenage but grew up in Hertford. Coincidentally Emily (above) was his youth worker when he was twelve-and now they work together! Ben is involved with a variety of weekly activities at MBC but has special responsibility for 'detached' youth work in the area-simply getting to know young people in and around the Mutley Plain area.

Alison Tute - Services Co-ordinator

Alison co-ordinates all aspects of the services here at MBC, from the ‘normal’ Sunday services to special events, as well as helping out with many of the other admin tasks in the church office. She is married to David and they have two ‘adult’ children, Jonathan and Emilie.

Alex Tunstall - Church Treasurer

Alex is married to Karen and has been so for 34 years. He is Church Treasurer and does the job admirably. In his spare time he like to play the odd game of golf.  He took early retirement from the bank in 2002. He enjoys his holidays, especially the ones visiting family in Arizona.  He has one Grandson living in Neath, South Wales.

Pauline Sobey - Church Cleaner

Pauline is married to David, 30 years this August.  She spends her spare time visiting her Mum in Staddicoombe, who is 80.  Pauline has a twin brother and a younger sister.  She enjoys walking, reading, word puzzles and watching History programmes.  She has been a member of Mutley Baptist since the mid 80's.

Anne Brindley - Families Worker

Anne says she is ‘46 going on 7’ and lives in St Judes with her 16 year old son Josh – ‘who is far too tall for his own good’. She is determined to grow old disgracefully, and currently sports a fine head of purple(ish) hair –“grey is so not me!” Anne works with young families both within and outside the church and is involved with the wider Mutley Plain/ Greenbank community as well as with church based groups like Playtime. Anne loves children, and has a passion for encouraging parents to spend quality time with their children.  She adds that she has more loud rock CDs than her son.

MBC is a big Church with loads of people, staff, leaders and members working all over the world, MBC is a lively, friendly community of more than four hundred people of all ages who meet together regularly, to share faith, enjoy worship, and build friendships. We are helped to do that by a large and diverse team under the leadership of Andy Caldwell, our Senior Pastor. The day to day running of the church, its activities and buildings is shared between our ‘front of house’ staff …

Rev. Andy Graham - Associate Pastor

Andy, Angela and their three girls, Ellie, Hannah and Kate have come to Plymouth from Nailsea just outside Bristol. They have quickly found their sea legs taking every available opportunity to get to the beach!

Andy joins the team to work along side Andy and to confuse everyone else by having the same name! He has responsibilities for Discipleship as well as sharing in the preaching and teaching programme.

Fiona Spicer - Building Ministry Co-ordinator

After a career in retail, a spell at Bible College, having three amazing children, accompanying her marine biologist husband around the world and living in Canada, Denmark and Sheffield (where’s the sea?) Fiona and co settled in Plymouth about seven years ago. She loves art in all shapes and forms and is enthusiastic about the use of art in Christian worship, ministry and life. Responsible for encouraging ‘creativity’ within church, which involves managing the day to day use of the building, the caretakers and cleaners, she sees her main role as generally stirring people up to be involved!

Carol Wiggin - Office Assistant

Carol is married to Mark, and they have 4 children – Hazel, Ian, Stef & Joe and a cat called Knightley. She moved to Plymouth from rural Shropshire in 2000, though is in fact a Brummie….. She is a leader with Rockets and Children’s Church and works in the church office on Mondays and Fridays.

Adrian Sutton - Church Secretary

Married to his lovely wife Joy since 1976, with three brilliant, now generally self-supporting children, Adrian assumed the mantle of Church Secretary in January 2008: he certainly felt the hand of God in the move into secretaryship and trusts that it will be a good experience for all concerned.

Some preparation for the role has come from an enjoyable 30 years in teaching (early retirement in 2006 - thanks!) preceded by a couple of years in social work, alongside 20 years in the TA which included a spell in the Regular Army in the 1970's.

Adrian still wears 'bulled' boots from time to time - when on Plymouth Street Pastor patrols.
